In the late 1990s members of the faith community now known as Faith Weavers of St. Mary established a sister-parish relationship with the small village of Miramar in El Salvador. We have partnered with SHARE (the Salvadoran Humanitarian Aid, Research, and Education Foundation) in conducting our outreach to the people of El Salvador.
The purposes of this outreach are to raise global and cultural awareness and to provide charitable support in a relationship guided by the Gospel message of caring for others.
Our faith community has sent delegates to Miramar to provide gratifying person-to-person contacts and a vivid understanding of human needs in a developing nation. We offer tangible support by:
- Helping to fund extension of electricity to Miramar, including every home;
- Purchasing land for village development;
- Providing significant donations of clothing, toiletries, medicines, and funding for fertilizers for raising crops;
- Funding a regional Youth Project for building community awareness and acquisition of life skills;
- Funding high school scholarships, including tuition, transportation, and added costs, all unpaid by the government;
- Providing funds for micro-loans to expand jobs and small businesses;
- Funding the construction of 37 outhouses for the community of Milagro de Dios.
